From the first hellos to the final bell, here is a typical day at Rokeby.

Ever wondered what your son’s day might look like at Rokeby? From our youngest boys in Reception to our oldest at 13, our days are busy, varied and brimming with opportunity, to bring out the brilliant in every boy. Here is a glimpse of a typical one.

The day begins early for some. Breakfast Club opens from 7.30am, a calm and friendly start for families who need an earlier drop-off, with a proper breakfast and time to ease gently into the morning. By the time registration comes around the building hums with the sound of a school waking up, bags being unpacked and friends reuniting after a night apart.

Assembly follows soon after morning registration. Coming together as a year group or as a whole school is one of our favourite parts of the day. It is where we celebrate achievements, share stories, reflect on what it means to be Smart, Skilful and Kind; the values that underpin everything we do and help each boy discover his own version of brilliant, and set the tone for the hours ahead.

Then the morning lessons begin. Our classrooms are purposeful and lively places. A boy might move from English to mathematics to science, or head out for PE or Games as part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Every lesson is crafted to stretch, support and inspire, ensuring that each boy’s strengths are noticed and nurtured.

PE for Reception to Year 8 takes place in the Main Hall, on the Astro or on the playground, helping boys build confidence and coordination. Once a week, the youngest boys (Reception – Year 2) also travel to Rokeby Sports Ground for a morning Games session, enjoying the space and freedom of our ten-acre site; another chance for boys to discover what they can do.

A short break mid-morning gives everyone time to run around, refuel with fruit or a freshly prepared snack, and catch up with friends before lessons continue.

Lunch is a social highlight as much as a meal. Boys sit together over food cooked from scratch, and the dining hall fills with conversation. It is a moment to pause, to be sociable and to practise the everyday good manners that matter so much.

No two days at Rokeby are the same; variety is built into the way our boys learn and grow.

Our timetable is designed to be rich, balanced and full of opportunity, ensuring that every boy experiences a wide range of subjects and moments where his unique talents can emerge.

Afternoons bring a different rhythm. This is when the broader curriculum shines, with lessons in art, music, drama, design and technology, and of course sport. From Year 3 onwards, all boys can represent the school in competitive fixtures. Whether on the pitch, in the art, music or DT rooms, or on the stage, the afternoon is when many boys discover what truly lights them up.

As lessons end, the day is far from over for many. Our programme of clubs and activities runs from chess to coding and from choir to fencing. There is something for every interest and plenty of chances to try something new. For families who need it, After School Care provides a warm and supervised place to land until pick-up.

By home time, the boys leave tired in the best possible way, full of stories about what they made, scored, learned or laughed about. Each day is designed to help every boy thrive academically, emotionally, physically and socially, and to bring out the brilliant in him. No two days are ever quite the same, because no two boys are the same.

The best way to understand a Rokeby day is to see it for yourself. We warmly invite you to visit during a normal school day, when the school is at its busiest and most full of life.
