Last week in Assembly, boys from Years 3–8 reflected on an important question: What does it truly mean to be a Rokeby boy? While they are already familiar with our core values — being Smart, Skilful and Kind — we took time to explore how these qualities come to life in their everyday actions.

Our staff team works closely with the boys to nurture good manners, politeness, thoughtfulness, and considerate leadership. These behaviours are already a strong part of our school culture, and our boys are, in general, wonderfully considerate, and inclusive. Still, as with any learning journey, occasional reminders help us all stay on track.

With the spirit of New Year’s resolutions in the air, the boys were set a challenge: to focus on small, meaningful actions that make a big difference to our community. These included:

  • Offering positive greetings and speaking respectfully
  • Arriving ready to learn, both in mindset and with the right equipment
  • Moving calmly and safely around the school
  • Being aware of others and making space when needed
  • Holding doors and letting others go first
  • Including others in games and conversations
  • Reflecting on their impact — How did I make them feel?
  • Striving to brighten someone’s day — Did I make their day better?

The response has been heart‑warming. The school is filled with smiles, cheerful “good mornings,” and thoughtful gestures. Few things are more uplifting than a Year 4 boy asking how your day is going, or a Year 5 boy offering sincere thanks after a lesson.

Moments like these remind us just how special our Rokeby boys are — and how proud we are of the young people they are becoming.
