A team of young writers has transformed imagination into reality by publishing a full-length novel.

The team is led by school librarian, Mark Drewery,  a published author who has been writing books since he was a teenager. Half Human: The Prison Key is a groundbreaking project, the first of its kind, co-authored and edited by members of the Rokeby Writing Team from Years 6–8. This bold initiative marks a new chapter in creative writing, showcasing what a school community can achieve when it comes together to create and publish a book. It encourages imagination across disciplines – writing, art, 3D modelling, and coding – and allows children’s creative expression to flourish.

About the Story:

The past always catches up with you and your heritage matters more than you think.

Ryan Barnes seems to have it all: speed, talent, popularity. But when his father’s people arrive, Ryan’s perfect life shatters. They are not from Earth, and Ryan discovers he is not fully human. Forced to abandon his dreams and adapt to a distant alien world, Ryan must rebuild his life, forge true friendships, and embrace his new identity among his alien family.

Blending adventure, identity, and belonging, Half Human: The Prison Key is a story that resonates with young readers everywhere.
