Year 5 Epsom Public Speaking Contest

On Thursday, 3 Year 5 boys took their public speaking skills, team work and their enthusiasm to Epsom college in order to combat world poverty.  Competing against 12 very strong teams from prep schools across London, Thomas P, William S and Ayan P competed to deliver the best 5 minute team speech on their chosen topic.

Our boys struck a sombre and reverent tone which reflected their passion for the topic, delivering a powerful, well researched speech without the use of visual aids or prompt cards (unlike 10 out of the 12 other teams), resonating well with the audience and judges alike.

It was a close call but the spoils for best team speech went to Ewell Castle for their speech on inequality. Congratulations to the team at Ewell Castle.

All was not lost, however, Ayan won the award for best speaker receiving comments that he would one day ‘make a very dangerous politician’. This came as no surprise as he was confident and dynamic, commanding the audience from his first syllable.

All 3 junior athenaeum members performed admirably, representing their school well, making all here at Rokeby very proud indeed. Well done boys.
