What a pleasure it was to lead the Year 5 trip to learn basic bushcraft skills. We went to Boughton Woods in Northamptonshire and what a great site it was.
Unfortunately, the weather was not particularly kind to us since it rained most of the day on the Tuesday. However, this did not appear to deter the boys who participated with great enthusiasm throughout.
The boys learnt a range of basic survival skills including fire building and fire lighting; making a bivouac shelter; principles of first aid; tying camp bracelets; knife skills; and building different types of traps from the materials available in the woods.
The boys conducted themselves well throughout the trip and I am sure that some of them managed to get some sleep over the two nights!
