The Joy of Christmas

We would like to share a beautiful Christmas poem that Ashok M, our Poet Laureate has written and that he will recite during this week’s Carol Service.

The Joy of Christmas

Frosty fingers, numb toes, in the biting cold

We enter our toasty homes

And the crackling fire warms our souls

Christmas trees and decorations,

A smile spreads across all our faces

Greeting each other with heartfelt salutations

Now is the start of our happy celebrations

The wondrous joy of giving and kindness

Sharing with those who may be lonely, those who may be less fortunate than us.

Offering our time, our ears, our hearts and homes

Showing us that giving is both a pleasure and an honour

Togetherness having the most wonderful tones.

Twinkling lights,

Glittering eyes,

Excited children, cosy beds,

All tucked in on Christmas Eve…

On the 25th of December,

we look out of our windows to behold,

A thick blanket of snow

laying there in front of us, white gold.

Awaiting what unfolds

Presents under the tree

Early to wake, a rush down the stairs

Gasps and exclamations!

Father Christmas’ contribution to the joyous occasion

Family time together

Happiness, laughter, excited voices

The day passes together

Hearts full, stomachs full,

Tired but happy, wrinkled eyes

The comfort of love,

The pleasure of togetherness,

The joy of Christmas.
