On Saturday 19th January, 7 boys from our Year 7 & 8 cohorts were selected to represent Kingston at the Surrey Schools Cross Country, held in Reigate. This opportunity was given to the boys due to their excellent performances at the Kingston Borough competition.
The four boys that ran in the Year 7 race were Benjamin S, Oliver H, Gigi A and Mattau S. The course was set at 3.2 km and the boys all ran superbly in what was a very high standard, consisting of the best runners in the county of Surrey in this age group. Benjamin won the race in an incredible time of 11 minutes 31 seconds and will go on to compete in the National Schools Cross Country held later in the year. This was a remarkable achievement from Benjamin, who led from the front for the entire race. Oliver, Gigi and Mattau all put in a great amount of effort and ensured they made Kingston proud.
The Year 8 boys selected to run consisted of Rory M, Oliver H and Pip B and were equally as impressive with their commitment to their respective race. The boys were up against it, with the majority of the field being selected from Year 9 runners. This Junior category race amalgamated both Year 8 & 9 boys into one race, ensuring an incredibly hard field for our boys. The distance for the Junior race was also longer than that of the Year 7’s and set at 4.1 km. Rory finished in 14th place in his category which was a great achievement and Oliver and Pip have ensured they are as prepared as possible for future events this year and for when they compete for their senior schools.
Once again, a fantastic effort from all the boys that participated, well done!
