The Rowe cup was held on Thursday 24th January with 52 competitors across the three sections. I was thoroughly impressed with the standard of all the boys who performed whether they had been learning for 6 months or 6 years. Our adjudicator for the evening Christopher Gayford was thoroughly impressed with the confidence of each performer and the lovely atmosphere created by the supportive audience.
A few of the outstanding performances of the evening were Alex R with his wonderfully nuanced performance of ‘Skipping Rope’ on the piano. Jin-Soo P, also performing on the piano demonstrated his dexterity and musicality to win the Intermediate section. Liam A had the audience hanging upon his every note with his soulful performance of ‘Malaguena’ on the Guitar. The Senior Section was a celebration of boys who have worked hard for many years to perform to a very high standard. Jeff L’s performance was dramatic and heartfelt on the violin of ‘Introduction and Polonaise’ was the winner of the section.
The overall winner of the Rowe Cup was Jamie Z who played Tchaikovsky’s Humoreske with panache and maturity.
Thank you to all the boys who performed, parents who supported and staff who helped in making the evening a great success.
