On Sunday 28th April, Benjamin S and Rory M competed in the Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon 2019, representing Kingston. As two of the fastest U13 Parkrun times in Kingston upon Thames, the boys were among just 6 selected to represent the borough at the event. The race is a national event, with Kingston competing both in the London Borough competition and the British National competition.
After a very early start (meeting at Kingsmeadow at 6.20am!) the boys travelled up to London with the rest of the girls and boys running for Kingston in the 3 different age groups (U13, U15 and U17). The U13 boys set off at 9.09am (well ahead of Sir Mo Farah!) to run the 3 miles from Billingsgate, along the Embankment then up Birdcage Walk and in front of Buckingham Palace before crossing the finish line on The Mall.
They both did really well. Of the 180, U13 boys running for London boroughs, Benjamin came 6th and was placed 37th in the British National competition, running a PB of 17:30. Rory was close behind him, running a very quick time of 19:05.
It was a great morning out and Kingston was placed 3rd in the U13B event – matching their best ever finish!
Well done to both the boys for their fantastic efforts.
