This week boys and staff were transported by old stories from the Brothers Grimm, dramatised by Carol Anne Duffy and Tim Supple, adapted and original material by Miss Scarlett, with lyrics and an original score by Miss Stephens.
The Year 5 & 6 production was directed by Miss Moolman, Miss Scarlett, Mrs Bell and Miss Price.
The five Groanbeck boys entered the restricted section of the school library to find themselves sucked into a world of stories.
The large cast told us enchanting, sometimes terrifying and often funny tales of Hansel & Gretel, Iron Hans and Little Red Cap, as the Groanbeck boys battled to get the stories back into the book, all the while avoiding their strange headmaster.
All of the boys performed with such professionalism, clarity, and skill and demonstrated confidence way beyond their tender years, managing to entertain, captivate and transport their audiences.
More Grimm Tales
The Year 7 & 8 production was directed by Mrs Bell and Miss Lewis, assisted by Miss Moolman and Ms Bratt with musical direction by Miss Stephens.
Set many years later, the five Groanbeck boys had grown in the men they were destined to be. Once more they were drawn into the restricted section and found themselves sucked into the book – via an amazing animation created by Ravi W, Patrick T and Raphael C.
A live band of boys provided the stunning soundtrack of an epic battle between the men and their old headmaster.
All of the boys performed with such passion, commitment, skill and professionalism, weaving tales including a dark yet comic Snow White, stunningly terrifying Rumplestiltskin and the hilarious Hare & Hedgehog. We thought that the Groanbeck boys had defeated the evil Mr Phelps but in a final twist, they became trapped in his new best-selling novel.
Both shows were expertly stage-managed by Miss O’Hagan, with set, props and make-up etc by Mrs Tattersall and Mr Smith, stunning visuals by Miss Lewis and supported by Neal Mulkerrins. Victor B operated Lighting and Oliver B operated sound. Special thanks to Mrs Patel for being our parent liaison for both wonderful shows and the many parents who supported in so many ways.
Well done to the entire Drama and Arts teams and to our brilliant boys for creating two epic shows.
