Four boys from Year 6 represented Rokeby in this interschool competition on 28th January. Forty one schools took part with two teams of two competing in Red and Blue Sections. The challenge had three rounds comprising:

\n

·         Mental test – twenty questions were read out and five seconds given to select the correct answer for each from a multiple choice of four. One mark per correct answer.

\n

·         Counting Down! – a similar format to the well-known Channel 4 number challenge in which Carol Vorderman became famous. Six numbers are selected. Our young computers have to make a given total using any of the four arithmetic operations. Five marks per correct solution. This challenge lasted for twenty minutes with a total of 130 points available.

\n

·         The Big Event – word problems from all the domains of mathematics. Ten marks per correct solution. This challenge lasted for forty minutes with maximum 200 points available.

Rokeby’s Red team (Thomas Reilly and Arnav Aggarwal) scored two hundred and forty nine, finishing eleventh. The boys were buzzing about the event afterwards and justifiably felt pleased with their performance against stiff opposition. Well done boys, you did us proud!
