The Allen Cup singing competition was held on Thursday 7th March and was an evening of wonderful performances from some very talented boys.
The boys who sang in the Junior Section (Years 3 & 4) demonstrated great confidence and huge potential as singers as they develop. The adjudicator David Condry was extremely impressed with their poise and confidence on stage. Tristan O in Year 4 wowed us with his assured performance of ‘Walking in the Air’ to win the Junior Section.
The 9 boys in the Intermediate Section took on some challenging and varied repertoire to delight the audience. Brandon M in Year 5 won the section with a very confident and mature performance of Empty Chairs at empty tables from Les Miserables.
The group section was not only fun but filled with some fabulous harmonies from the groups which ranged from Years 3 to 8. The Year 5 & 6 group of Oliver M, Rohan D-S, Luca S, and Jeff L demonstrated their mischevious side with a dramatic and funny performance of ‘You’ve got to pick at pocket or two’ from Oliver.
The Senior Section is always hotly contested and this year with so many fine singers in Year 7 & 8 was no different, with the boys making Mr Condry’s job very difficult with some very diverse repertoire. Jack T ended the evening on a fine note with a fun, dramatic and perfectly pitched performance to win the Senior Section.
The overall winners of the Rowe Cup were Alexandre G and Oliver B in Year 7 with their beautiful performance of ‘You raise me up’. Perfect harmonies, wonderfully communicated left not a dry eye in the room.
A huge congratulations to all the boys who auditioned for the competition, performed in the final and supported each other throughout the competition.
