At last weekend’s Surrey County Championships, Max was crowned the 2019 Surrey County Champion in the 50m Freestyle in the 10/11 y.o. category.
Staged at the spectacular venue of the 2012 Olympics at the London Aquatics Centre. Max, who swims with Kingston Royals, finished a good 5th in the breaststroke final with a new PB that placed him as the 2nd fastest Kingston Royaler ever in his age group over the last 23 years.
In the 50m Butterfly, Max again qualified for the final, seeded in 2nd position and settled for silver after an incredibly tight race, again with an impressive PB.
In addition to the swim placing him as No.17 in the UK in his age category, he later posted a sizzling 33.11s split in the fly portion of the bronze-medal winning relay that would place him as No3 in the UK in 2019 and fastest ever at his club.
He dusted off the narrow loss and swam a new 1.03s PB in the heat of the 50m Freestyle. Max went into the final with 4 individual silvers and 1 relay bronze in his pocket from the Championships. Clearly focussed and determined for his 62nd and most important career gold, he got off to a good start and sprinted away from the field after 15m to win by a comfortable margin, in a new PB of 30.78s, ranking him as No.6 in the UK, and 2nd fastest ever at his club.
With these results, Max has already earned himself a berth in 5 events in the next rung up the swimming ladder, the London Regionals in May in the dual 11/12 age group, again at the same venue.
Well done Max!
