History

We encourage our boys to consider how the past influences the present.

‘and history teacher who actually brings the past to life.’

– Rokeby Boy (Good Schools Guide)

We take a chronological approach to the teaching of History. The journey begins at Year 1 with the study of prehistory and over the years boys work their way through the ancient civilisations, invaders and settlers, Middle Ages and by the time they reach Years 7 and 8 we reach the start of the 20th Century.

Boys explore source material, weigh it up and reach their own conclusions. They research and sift through evidence so as to be able to argue a point of view, to learn about the past in Britain and the wider world.

We encourage our boys to explore cross-curricular links wherever possible. We organise regular trips to sites of historical interest and incorporate learning history into other residential trips.
